External Insulation System
External wall insulation systems for Irish homes: graphite EPS boards, adhesives, mesh, beads and silicone renders, with full system advice.
External Insulation System: what to buy and how to use it
External wall insulation wraps the outside of a house in a continuous layer, which removes cold bridging at reveals and floor junctions in a way internal insulation cannot. For most Irish homes, solid wall or poorly filled cavity, it is the single upgrade that changes how the building feels in winter.
Our EPS insulation system range covers the whole build-up: boards, adhesive, mechanical fixings, reinforcing mesh, beads and the primer and render that finish it. We stock the parts as a system on purpose, because mixing an adhesive from one manufacturer with a basecoat from another is where most render failures start.
Two questions come up on nearly every job. How thick do the boards need to be, which depends on the wall you are starting from and whether you are chasing an SEAI grant threshold. And which finish to use, where silicone render is worth the extra over acrylic on anything exposed to driving rain.
If you are weighing EPS against mineral wool, our comparison guide sets out the trade-offs on cost, breathability and fire rating.
Send us your wall areas and we will put together a materials list and a delivered price for the whole system.
