EPS Insulation System: what to buy and how to use it
Everything needed to wrap a house in graphite EPS, bought as a system rather than as parts from four different merchants. Graphite boards reach the same U-value as white EPS at a thinner build-up, which matters on a reveal or where a path runs close to the wall.
A typical build-up goes on in this order. The EPS starter track sets the first row level and protects the bottom edge. Boards are bonded with Ceresit ZU 2-in-1, which also embeds the mesh later, or with CT84 foam adhesive where speed matters. Once the adhesive has gone off, polystyrene fixings go in at roughly six to eight per square metre.
The reinforcing layer is fibreglass mesh bedded in basecoat, with beads at every edge: corner, stop and window drip. After CT16 primer comes the finish, usually CT74 or CT76 silicone render, which sheds dirt better than acrylic in Irish rain.
